Five Fabulous Christmas Events in Cornwall

Padstow Christmas Festival 1-4 December
padstow-christmas-festivalPadstow Christmas Festival combines a traditional Christmas market with top notch cooking demonstrations and live music. In 2015 the festival attracted fifty thousand visitors!

As you might expect from foodie capital Padstow, there is a strong emphasis on gastronomic goodies with cookery demonstrations from some of the country’s top chefs including Rick Stein ( of course!), Paul Ainsworth, Michael Caines and Angela Hartnett to name but a few.

The Christmas market combines lots of local artisan food and drink produce and it is also a great event for showcasing exciting gifts arts and crafts.
To top it off there is live music everyday on the bandstand and a carol service on the Sunday.

Truro Victorian Christmas Market 13-18 December
truro-4One the highlights of the Christmas calender in Truro, there are over 67 traders, producers and exhibitors at this six day market on Lemon Quay Piazza in the centre of the City. Housed in a huge, heated marquee the event attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year to see the stall-holders in their Victorian costumes, sample the wares and buy unique gifts.

The marquee is split into two distinct zones; the Food Hall with meat, cheese, chocolates, preserves, liqueurs, ales etc (basically, everything you could want food wise over Christmas), and the Arts, Crafts and Gifts Hall which has clothing, jewellery, artwork, pottery, books and much more for your present buying delight. Most of the traders make their products themselves and will be happy to talk to you about production processes and, in the case of food, food miles, origin and tracability.

Christmas at Trelissick – throughout December
trelissick-3National Trust owned Trelissick certainly put on a good show for Christmas. The garden is beautifully lit so wrap up warm and stroll through a winter wonderland of lights and colour – highlights include the shaded walk and house terrace.  The house is adorned too, all ready for Christmas with decorations and twinkling lights. Visit from dusk – 7pm on weekends in December, and Monday 19 – Friday 23 December.

Father Christmas and his reindeer are paying a special visit too. Book in advance for an audience with Father Christmas – Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through December. His reindeer will also be in the stable yard on 3rd, 10th and 17th December! The mulled wine is on and the mince pies are warm, it’s the perfect time to get into the festive spirit.

Mousehole Christmas Lights 17 December – 7 January
The Christmas lights in Mousehole are a sight to behold with floating displays of lights in the harbour and around the streets. Sea serpents, fishing boats and whales light up the harbour with an impressive centrepiece of a millennium Celtic cross on St Clement Island!

Follow the winding string of lanterns through the streets – some are barely wide enough to walk through. Browse through the gift shops, and stop for a rest in one of the local restaurants and cafes and stop for a meal and a drink in one of village restaurants, cafes or pubs.

The 2016 ‘switch-on’ will be held on Saturday 17th December 2016 at 7pm. The lights will then be on each evening between 5pm and 11pm from 18th December 2016 until 7th January 2017 (With the exception of 19th Dec, when the lights will be dimmed between 8-9pm).

Christmas at Eden – October until February
eden-1Christmas is a magical time to visit the Eden Project. From twilight each evening the site is beautifully lit and the glistening ice rink is open! Father Christmas will be there with his elves and the Festival of Light and Sound will be a sight to behold. The cafes will be serving seasonal food and you can do a spot of Christmas shopping at the Eden shop.

Eden is open every day of the holidays except for Christmas day, and will stay open late on selected evenings. The ice rink is open from Saturday 15 October 2016 until Sunday 19 February 2017.
